Rosie Mayhew

Oncology scar care specialist

About me.

Where it all began: I worked as a therapist in various orphanages in Romania from 1997 - 2001 working with children who had experienced deep trauma and institutionalisation. During that time I learned the extraordinary impact that safe, consistent physical contact could have on children who had been deprived of positive human touch. That experience not only shaped my career but my understanding of healing. I saw how something as simple compassionate touch could bring moments of calm, reciprocation, connection and regulation, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Since then in my personal life I have cared for my Grandma and my Dad in their end of life journeys whilst also working professionally across a wide range of healthcare settings, including hospice care, NHS oncology services, and specialist cancer support centres. My work has included five years at St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney supporting patients with complex palliative needs, as well as Breast Cancer Haven in Fulham and within the chemotherapy unit at Whittington Hospital where I provided oncology massage and post surgical scar care in a clinical environment. I have also worked within mental health services, contributing to the development of a complimentary therapy programme within the Holloway Women’s Prison, and more recently have continued my work on the south coast with the Sara Lee Trust, alongside running my private practice at the Body Junction in Bexhill.

At the heart of all my work is the simple belief: that the body has innate capacity to heal, and that with the right support, it can do so more effectively.

My approach is gentle, person centred, considered and evidence based, focussing on supporting recovery, reducing pain, improving tissue mobility and helping clients feel more at ease in their bodies. I now integrate red light therapy into my practice alongside hands-on treatment, to support healing on a physical, psychological and cellular level.

My area of specialism and passion is post surgery breast cancer scar care. My aim is to alleviate the side effects of cancer treatment by providing compassionate, nurturing, after-care when the chemo nurses, radiologists and surgeons have done their work.

Continued professional development in Breathwork and myofascial release play a large role in my approach to working with scars and managing pain.

My ongoing mission is to broaden the understanding and incorporation of post surgical scar-care within routine breast cancer treatment and management.

It is a privilege to do this work, providing support and after-care people need during and after cancer treatment.

My qualifications include: ITEC Level 3 Holistic Massage Diploma, ITEC Level 3 Aromatherapy Diploma, Federation of Holistic
Therapists Manual Lymphatic Drainage Practitioner Diploma, Reiki Level 1, Introduction to myofascial release.
